If you weren't there, you missed a terrific celebration of soccer tonight!
The GIRLS game finished 2:2 (North vs. South), with a PK stopped with just a few seconds left on the clock.
The Boys game was one which we were all hoping would happen (scoring!) at WC2010: it was 4:2 at half time! Great goals, too. One was scored from the halfway line (that's about 55 yards!).
I had to leave at halftime, so I don't know what the final was in the Boys game, but:
I've known a LOT of boys and girls who played in the All Star game in the past...they ALWAYS enjoyed it because it's the last time they can show their talents in front of their friends/parents/grandparents/others....and play with (or against) players they've grown up with. Then it's off to the next chapter in their lives: COLLEGE! And you better pass the 12 minute run for two miles!
Good luck to all.....

| Quote: | The North team hammered the South 10-2 in the 26th annual Missouri Athletic Club High School All-Star Soccer game Thursday at the Anheuser-Busch Center.
With a roster loaded with players from schools north of Highway 40, the North side, skippered by CBC coach Terry Michler, put on a show. They scored four first half goals and knocked in another six after the break.
The South had little to nothing going offensively. After the North side made it 3-0 early in the first half, Vianney grad Johnny Roeckle pulled a rabbit out of the hat. He took the kickoff from Adnan Gabelijic and, while standing in the center circle, blasted it on goal.
The ball ricocheted off Andrew Riggs’ hand and went into the net.
Roeckle, who was awarded the South MVP after the match, would another goal 10 minutes later and that would be all she wrote for the South.
The North buried its rival in an avalanche. Fort Zumwalt South’s Ousmane Gueye had a pair of scores and at least one assist to earn North MVP honors.
The girls game ended tied at 2-2.
SLU signees were outstanding
If the all-star game was any indication the Billikens have themselves one heck of a local freshmen class coming in.
Roeckle, Gabelijic and Chaminade grad and Northsider Sito Sasieta were anywhere from good to brilliant Thursday night.
Roeckle was the South’s most consistent and dangerous offensive player.
Gabelijic, who was a focal point of the North defense, showed good skills, speed and size.
Sasieta, who suffered a broken leg during the regular season at Chaminade, said he’s not 100-percent healthy but you’d have never have known by his play. His distribution, skill and touch were outstanding, as were his runs. He scored a goal and assisted on another.
It has to be the ball
The Jabulani must have magnets in it.
The adidas brand ball that has garnered much attention during the World Cup the past couple of weeks for its erratic flight pattern, fooling goalkeepers and defenders and just being uncontrollable, was the official ball of the game Thursday night.
The ball was pinged off the post a handful of times. The goalkeepers had a tough time keeping their hands on it. Some of the players ripped shots that saw the ball do some things you normally don’t see a ball do.
Awards
Sam Copple Goalkeeper of the Year Award went to: Incarnate Word’s Jodi Chapie and Zumwalt South’s Andrew Riggs. |

Boatnut:
thank you for your report....but:
I'm sad that I had to miss all those goals in the Boys' second half.
It WAS a soccer celebration about what's good in our area: the PLAYERS!
