If you dont think it has to do with money then check what hs kids make the NBA. They aren't kids from Lafayette HS. If you look at the kids who play in the MLS you are generally looking at middle class or upper middle class kids. THe NBA has poor kids.
Yes Floyd Irons cheated when he won state championships, he won with kids he stole from other teams in the PHL, but he won with poor kids. The soccer title is the domain of rich private school kids.

????????? What are you talking about? What does making the NBA or MLS have to do with this post? You infered that poorer people don't play soccer because of money, and I'm telling you they don't play because they are not interested in soccer as a rule. People who have a passion for a sport find a way to play it. It costs a great deal of money to play select basketball as well, and I know a great deal of poorer people who find a way to pay the money, often at a great sacrifice. The fact is there are millions of poor children around the world who play soccer and they do so because they were exposed to it. Money has nothing to do with it.

In america soccer kids have money. Poor kids dont play soccer because rookies drafted in the mls make 25,000 a year. In the NBA it is in the millions. My point is just that soccer in america is the domain of the upper class. Not the world. In america. The problem with american soccer is it is limited to the upper class. It creates a discrepency in results between private/public schools because poor kids dont play our game.
Poor kids play b-ball. So you can go ahead and pay big bucks to play b-ball, if you are 5-9, and the poor kid is 6-7, you lose. Even if you spent the money. In soccer height is a non-factor, and in some cases so is size. Speed and skill are the name of the game. Skill can be developed.
Private schools succeed in soccer, because poor kids dont play soccer, and when they do they dont get the training they need. For whatever reason we in the us have made this an upper class sport. And since it is an upper class sport the private schools will succeed.
It doesnt matter than some invest big dollars in hoops. Poor kids who play the game 12 hours a day trump the suburban rich kids who travel everywhere.
US soccer wants to make the game less economicaly based, I've seen the articles, but so far they failed.
You cant think that all of these chamionships are because of
A) all of the privates school have cheated for the last 10 years.
B) The CYC is where it is at.
How many kids play for Busch and have a family income below $100,000? How many kids play for Rockhurst or SLUH and have a family income below $100,000?
The boys champion was one of the McCleur schools right? Do you really think those kids have family incomes comparable to the kids at SLUH?
Look at every big class state champ. All are privates, except Oakville, Blue Springs, and Hazelwood Central. What did those neighborhoods look like when they won the title. Pretty darn affleunt.
The girls big class champion was FZW, are they hurting for cash? I dont think so. Mautz was a big time elite club player. The champion in Mo. will not always be private, but in the last ten years they have been affluent as a group. It has been awhile since blue collar cyc kids won a state championship in the big class. Probably one of the Aquinas teams was the last one. And since I'm saying big class, it has been awhile since Aquinas was in the big class.

| I second that motion overtime. And then all sports will be on a level playing field. Privates can boast about their soccer final as the best in the nation and the football final can pit public school deseg. students against each other. Let's get a proposal together.
